Are dogs allowed in pubs in the UK?

Often, yes — and there's no law stopping them. The idea that dogs are banned from pubs is one of the most persistent myths in British hospitality, and it's simply wrong. Whether a dog is welcome comes down to the landlord, and a huge number of UK pubs — country pubs especially — not only allow dogs but roll out the water bowl and the treats jar. There is no legislation banning dogs from pubs. Assistance dogs are the exception to all of the above. Under the Equality Act 2010, a pub must admit a trained assistance dog, food areas included — refusing one is unlawful discrimination, whatever the general pet policy.

For an ordinary dog, the etiquette is simple and goes a long way to keeping pubs dog-friendly: keep them on a lead, settle them quietly out of the walkway, don't feed them at the table, and clear up any mess.
